The updated 2026 Tata Punch EV arrived recently with notable revisions. The larger battery carries an ARAI-certified figure of 468 km, its real-world C75 range stands at around 355 km. The entry-level 30 kWh option, meanwhile, is rated at 265 km on a single charge. At first glance, the facelifted Punch EV looks quite similar to the outgoing model, but there are subtle differences that stand out. Up front, the connected LED light bar seen earlier has been removed. Instead, the facelift features LED DRLs positioned at the edges, giving it a cleaner appearance. The bumper has been redesigned with a larger air dam and a textured silver faux skid plate, replacing the earlier black strip element.

Interior Design and Cabin Experience: Feature-Rich, Honest About Its Limitations

Sometimes a facelift doesn’t mean a completely new package — it can also arrive in the form of strategic upgrades that enhance the overall value of the package, and that’s what Tata has done with this mid-life update for its Tata Punch EV. Arriving just two years after the original car was introduced, Tata has added more to the kitty by expanding the range, adding new technologies, and upgrading the interiors. The interior’s character is technology-forward rather than material-luxury-forward. The plastics are well-assembled and appropriate for the price, but they do not create an impression of premium richness. What has been genuinely and meaningfully added:
Ventilated front seats on top variants — in India’s climate where seat surface temperature becomes a legitimate discomfort within minutes of sitting in a parked car, ventilated seats are not a luxury addition. They are a quality-of-life essential that the Punch EV now delivers at a price point where no rival currently offers them.
The sunroof on Adventure and above variants floods the dark cabin with natural light and creates the perception of significantly more space — particularly important in a compact 3,880 mm body where interior volume is always a constraint.
The 360-degree surround view camera on top variants transforms parking into an effortless process for a car that urban buyers will manoeuvre in tight spaces daily.
But here is the honest conversation that must happen about two specific compromises.
Of course, there are a few compromises. The ambient lighting has been removed, and the rear disc brakes have been replaced with drums. According to Tata, the new integrated powertrain has helped reduce costs considerably, making this aggressive pricing possible.
The ambient lighting removal is a cabin atmosphere downgrade that existing Punch EV owners who valued the previous car’s evening character will notice and regret. For new buyers who never experienced the previous model, it is simply absent — and less noticed. But for loyalists upgrading, it is a genuine regression.
The rear drum brake change is more significant from a performance and feel perspective, which we will address thoroughly in the safety section.
The rear seat is best suited for four occupants overall. While it is technically a five-seater, the middle passenger misses out on a headrest and space is limited when all seats are occupied. Rear passengers also do not get AC vents or cupholders, which would have improved long-distance comfort.
These rear seat limitations are important for buyers planning regular five-adult travel or long-distance family trips. The absence of rear AC vents in a climate like India’s is the most practically significant interior shortcoming. That is a fair summary of the cabin’s overall proposition. It is a competent, technology-rich, well-assembled urban car that is honest about what it is.
Battery Architecture and Powertrain: The Engineering Story Behind the Upgrade
Tata has switched from cylindrical cells to prismatic cells, which offer higher energy density, wider operating temperature, and faster charging rate. The outgoing car had the motor, controller and gearbox as one unit and the DC/DC converter, OBC (onboard charger), and Power Distribution Unit (PDU) as another unit.

ARAI figures are measured under standard laboratory conditions that bear limited resemblance to Indian real-world driving with air conditioning, varying speeds, traffic stops, and full occupancy.
For reference, our test of the previous 35 kWh long-range Punch EV yielded a combined range of 229 km, which we expect this facelift to improve upon.
The pre-facelift 35 kWh model’s 229 km real-world result from Autocar India’s testing puts the 40 kWh facelift’s 335 to 355 km C75 claim into sharp relief. If the improvement holds up under similar testing conditions — and the prismatic cell architecture and improved powertrain integration provide genuine engineering reasons to expect it will — the facelift represents a real-world range improvement of approximately 106 to 126 km over its predecessor. The Arcade.EV 2.0 infotainment system on the facelift brings over-the-air update capability, meaning the car’s software can be improved and new features added after purchase without a dealer visit. This is significant because it means the car you buy today will not be the car you have in three years — it will be a better version of it.
Multi-mode regenerative braking — available across the range — allows selection between near-freewheel coasting and aggressive one-pedal driving. The brakes, however, could still use a bit more bite; the pedal feels slightly spongy and requires more travel than is ideal. While Tata maintains that the switch to rear drum brakes meets all necessary safety standards, a sharper, more immediate response would have been welcome.
